Convert Contract Template to PDF

A contract sent as a Google Docs link is an editable document. Even with view-only sharing, the recipient can request edit access or make suggested edits that create ambiguity. A PDF is definitively read-only. It is the standard format for legal and business agreements because it creates a fixed record of what was offered and, once signed, what was agreed.

Open the completed contract in Google Drive or the Docs editor. Click the Docs to PDF extension icon in your Chrome toolbar. The extension uses Google's export API to generate the PDF and downloads it to your computer. The original template in Drive is unchanged. For each new engagement, copy the template, fill in the specifics, and export the copy as a PDF.

Contract templates often include numbered clauses, defined terms, signature blocks, and multiple pages with consistent headers and footers. All of these export correctly because the extension uses Google's own rendering engine. Numbered lists keep their sequence, tables keep their structure, and headers and footers appear on every page.

Contracts sent to multiple parties need consistent copies. Bulk conversion lets you export multiple contract copies in one operation. Each copy becomes a separate PDF with identical content and formatting. No manual steps are needed between copies.

Export the contract as a PDF and upload it to your e-signature platform. After the client or vendor signs, you receive a signed copy. Keep both the unsigned and signed PDFs in your records. The unsigned copy is the reference for your original terms. The signed copy is the executed agreement.
