Fix PDF Download Not Starting from Google Docs

A PDF download that does not start after conversion usually means Chrome is blocking the download or there is a download setting preventing the file from saving. Here is how to unblock downloads and get your file.

Check for blocked downloads in Chrome

Look at the top-right of the Chrome window immediately after conversion. A small download blocked or permission notification may appear. Click it and select 'Allow'. Also open chrome://downloads to see if the file appears there as blocked or interrupted.

Allow multiple automatic downloads

Chrome asks for permission the first time a site tries to trigger multiple downloads automatically. Go to chrome://settings/content/automaticDownloads and check whether docs-to-pdf.com or the Google Drive domain is blocked. Add it to the allowed list.

Check available disk space

If your hard drive is full, downloads silently fail. Check available storage on your computer. If space is low, clear some files and try the download again.

Change the Chrome download location

Go to Chrome Settings > Downloads and check where downloads are being saved. If the target folder no longer exists or is on an unmounted external drive, downloads fail silently. Change the download folder to a location that exists and has write permissions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the progress bar complete but no file appears?

The file was likely saved somewhere unexpected. Check your default Chrome downloads folder and also sort your entire downloads folder by date modified to find the most recently saved file.
