Fix Table Header Row Not Repeating in Google Docs to PDF

A table header row that does not repeat on every page in a PDF from Google Docs makes multi-page tables hard to read. Here is how to set up a repeating header row that exports correctly.

Pin the header row in Google Docs

Click inside the first row of the table. Go to Format > Table > Pin header row (or right-click and look for Pin header row). The header row will now be marked to repeat at the top of every page when the table spans multiple pages. Re-export the PDF and verify the header appears on each page.

Check if the feature is available in your Docs version

The 'Pin header row' feature is available in Google Docs in the Format > Table menu. If you do not see this option, your version of Google Docs may not support it for the type of table you have. Update your browser and ensure Google Docs is using the latest version.

Manual workaround: split the table

If header pinning is not available or not working, split the table at each page break manually. Insert a page break before each table segment and paste a copy of the header row at the top of each segment. This is manual effort but guarantees the header appears correctly.

Verify in Print Preview

After setting the header row to repeat, go to File > Print Preview and scroll through multiple pages to confirm the header appears at the top of every page. Print Preview shows the same output the PDF engine will produce.

Frequently Asked Questions
