Merge Google Docs into One PDF
Merging Google Docs into one PDF means your recipients get a single file instead of a collection of separate documents. The Docs to PDF extension lets you select multiple Docs in Google Drive, set the order, and download one combined PDF. It works directly in Chrome using Google's own export API, so nothing gets uploaded to a third-party service.
How to merge Google Docs into one PDF
Open Google Drive and select the documents you want to merge. Hold Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) to click multiple files. Click the Docs to PDF extension icon in your Chrome toolbar, switch to merge mode, arrange the documents in the order you want, and click Merge. The extension exports each Doc and combines the resulting PDFs into one file that downloads to your computer.
Getting the order right
The extension shows your selected documents in a list before merging. Drag any item up or down to change its position. The final PDF will follow that order from first to last page. If you want a cover page, put that document at the top. If you have appendices, place them at the bottom. You can also remove a document from the list without deselecting it in Drive.
What formatting looks like in the merged result
Each Google Doc renders exactly as it would in a standalone PDF export, because the extension uses Google's own conversion for each file. Fonts, tables, images, headers, footers, and page margins are all preserved. Page numbers in the merged file are continuous by default, so page one of the second document becomes the next page after the last page of the first document.
Merging shared documents and documents from others
You can merge documents that were shared with you as long as you have at least Viewer access. This includes documents in shared drives and files that colleagues have granted you access to. If a document requires you to request access, the extension will skip it and report that file as failed. Resolve the access issue in Drive first, then retry the merge.
When merging is better than combining manually
Copying and pasting content from multiple Google Docs into one document destroys the original formatting, breaks page layouts, and takes significant time when documents are long. Merging through the extension avoids all of that. Each document is converted independently and then stitched together as PDFs, so the layout of each source document is fully preserved in the final file.

How many Google Docs can I merge at once?
There is no set limit on the number of documents. The extension processes each one in sequence. Very large merges may take a few minutes. The free plan has a monthly usage limit; the Pro plan has no limit.
Can I merge Google Docs from different folders?
Yes. You can select documents from different folders in your Drive and merge them in a single operation. The files do not need to be in the same location.
Does the merged PDF keep the formatting from each document?
Yes. Each document is converted using Google's own export engine, which preserves fonts, tables, images, and layout. The same formatting you see in the Doc editor appears in the merged PDF.
Can I merge Google Docs with Google Sheets or Slides?
Yes. The extension supports merging a mix of Docs, Sheets, and Slides in one operation. Each file type is converted appropriately and the results are combined in the order you choose.
Will the original documents be changed when I merge?
No. Merging creates a new PDF file. The original Google Docs in your Drive are not modified or deleted.
Can I merge Google Docs on a Chromebook?
Yes. The extension runs in Chrome on any platform including Chromebook. As long as you are signed into Chrome and have Drive access, merging works the same way.
