Merge Two Documents with Alternating Pages

Alternating two documents produces a PDF where the pages alternate between the two sources. This is the most direct way to create a parallel reading document or to assemble a properly ordered double-sided scan.

Selecting the two documents

Hold Ctrl or Cmd and click both files in Drive. Alternatively, use the extension's file picker to add them individually. Open the extension, switch to alternating merge mode, and confirm which file is first (its pages will appear on odd positions in the merged output).

Checking the result

After the merge, open the PDF and check pages 1 and 2. Page 1 should be from the first document and page 2 should be from the second document. If the order is reversed, reopen the extension, swap the document positions, and re-merge.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my documents have different numbers of pages?

The shorter document's pages are exhausted first. The remaining pages from the longer document are appended at the end of the merged file.
