Fix Table Causing Blank Page in Google Docs to PDF
A table that creates a blank page in the PDF export is either too tall to fit on one page, has too much space before or after it, or is followed by a paragraph that gets pushed to a new page. Here is how to fix table-related blank pages.
Reduce the table height to fit the page
If a table does not fit on the current page, it moves to the next page and leaves blank space on the current page. Reduce the row heights by selecting all rows, right-clicking, going to Table properties, and reducing the minimum row height. Remove any extra padding from cells in the same dialog.
Remove extra paragraphs around the table
Google Docs requires at least one paragraph before and after a table. Sometimes extra empty paragraphs accumulate around a table. With paragraph marks visible, look for multiple empty paragraph marks above or below the table and delete the extras.
Check the paragraph after the table
Google Docs always requires a paragraph after a table. This required paragraph mark takes up space. If the table fills almost an entire page, the required trailing paragraph mark is pushed to the next page, creating a blank page. The only fix is to make the table slightly shorter so the required paragraph fits on the same page.
Allow the table to split across pages
A table set to 'not split across pages' will jump entirely to the next page if it does not fit on the current one. Right-click the table, select Table properties, and uncheck 'Prevent rows from splitting across pages'. This allows the table to split at a page break, which keeps content flowing naturally without blank pages.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does a blank page appear before my table in the PDF?
The table is set to not split across pages and there is not enough room for it on the current page. The table jumps to the next page, leaving blank space behind. Either make the table smaller, allow row splitting, or add a manual page break before the table so it starts on a clean page.
