Bulk Convert a Google Drive Folder to PDF
When a project wraps up or a school term ends, you often need to export an entire Google Drive folder as PDFs. Doing it file by file through File > Download gets exhausting at more than a handful of documents. The Docs to PDF extension lets you open a folder in Google Drive, select all files at once, and export every compatible document as a PDF in a single operation. Docs, Sheets, and Slides all convert together in the same batch, each producing its own named PDF file.
How to convert an entire folder
Open Google Drive and navigate into the specific folder you want to export. Press Ctrl+A (Windows) or Cmd+A (Mac) to select all files in the current view. Click the Docs to PDF extension icon in your Chrome toolbar. The extension identifies Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides in your selection and exports each one to PDF. Other file types like uploaded images, PDFs, or Word documents are skipped without errors.
Mixed file types in the same folder
Most Google Drive folders contain a mix of document types. The extension handles them all in one pass. A folder with three Google Docs, two Sheets, and one Slides presentation produces six PDFs in your downloads folder, each named after the original file. You do not need to sort or separate files by type before running the export.
Subfolders are not included automatically
The extension converts files in the folder you have open. It does not recurse into subfolders. If your project has multiple nested folders, open each subfolder separately and run the export. For large folder hierarchies, this means a few extra steps but keeps the output organized by folder.
Shared and team drive folders
Folder exports work on any folder you can view, including shared drives and folders that colleagues have shared with you. You need at least Viewer access to each file. If a file has download restrictions, the extension skips it and reports the failure count at the end. Everything else exports normally.
Automating folder exports with Apps Script
If you export the same folder every week, Google Apps Script can automate the process. Write a short script using the Drive API that iterates over a specific folder, exports each file to PDF, and saves the results to a target folder in Drive. Set a time-based trigger to run the script on a schedule without any manual steps.

Can I convert an entire Google Drive folder to PDF at once?
Yes. Open the folder, press Ctrl+A or Cmd+A to select all files, and run the Docs to PDF extension. Each compatible file becomes a separate PDF.
Does the extension convert files inside subfolders?
No. The extension converts files in the current folder view only. Open each subfolder separately and repeat the process for files inside them.
What file types in the folder will not convert?
Uploaded files that are not in Google format (such as uploaded Word documents, Excel files, or images) are skipped. Only native Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides are converted.
Can I convert a shared folder if I am not the owner?
Yes. You need at least Viewer access. Files with download restrictions set by the owner or admin will fail; everything else exports normally.
How do I organize the PDFs after a folder export?
All PDFs download to your Chrome downloads folder. Create a dedicated subfolder in your downloads directory before running the batch, then move all the new PDFs into it after the export completes.
