Convert Google Drive Files to PDF

Google Drive stores all your Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides files. The Docs to PDF extension works directly from the Drive interface, so you can select any file, click once, and get a PDF without ever opening the document. This covers your own files, files in shared drives, and files shared with you by colleagues.

1

Converting from Drive vs converting from the editor

When you are inside a Google Doc and click the extension, the export uses the document URL in the current tab. When you are in Google Drive and select a file, the extension reads the file ID from the Drive selection. The export process and output quality are identical. The Drive method is faster when you want to convert multiple files or when you do not need to open the document.

2

File types supported from Drive

The extension converts Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides. It does not convert uploaded Microsoft Office files unless Google has already converted them to Google format. Uploaded PDF files, images, and other non-Google-format files are not converted. Only native Google Workspace document types are supported.

3

Shared drives and team files

Google Workspace shared drives give teams a common storage space. The extension works on shared drive files with the same one-click process as personal Drive files. You need at least Viewer access. Files where the owner has restricted downloads will fail to export.

4

Bulk conversion from Drive

Select multiple files in any Drive folder using Ctrl+click or Cmd+click and then click the extension icon once. The extension converts each file in sequence and downloads a separate PDF for each. This is the most efficient way to convert a folder of documents.

5

Where the PDFs go

Exported PDFs download to your browser's default downloads folder. The extension names each PDF after the original Google file. You can change your Chrome download location in Settings > Downloads. If you want PDFs saved to a specific folder automatically, set Chrome to always ask where to save downloads.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I convert Google Drive files to PDF without downloading them?

Yes. Select the file in Drive and click the extension icon. The PDF is exported by Google and downloaded to your computer. The Google Drive file itself is not downloaded or altered.

Does the extension work on files in a shared drive?

Yes. Open the shared drive in Google Drive, select the files you want to convert, and click the extension icon. You need at least Viewer access.

Can I convert an entire folder to PDF at once?

Yes. Open the folder, press Ctrl+A or Cmd+A to select all files, and click the extension icon. The extension converts each Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides file in the folder.

Why do some files fail to convert?

Files fail if you do not have export permission, if the file type is not supported (such as uploaded Word or Excel files), or if the Google API returns an error. The extension shows a count of failed exports after a batch.
