Convert a Google Drive Folder to PDF

When you need PDFs of everything in a Google Drive folder, the manual method takes too long. Open each file, navigate to File > Download, wait, repeat. The Docs to PDF extension handles the entire folder in one step. Open the folder, select all, click the icon, and every Google Doc, Sheet, and Slide in the folder becomes a PDF.

1

How to convert an entire folder

Navigate to the target folder in Google Drive and switch to list view. Press Ctrl+A on Windows or Cmd+A on Mac to select all files in the folder. Click the Docs to PDF extension icon in your Chrome toolbar. The extension reads the selection, filters for convertible file types, and begins exporting each one. PDFs download to your local downloads folder as they finish.

2

What gets converted and what gets skipped

The extension converts Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Raw uploaded files in .docx, .xlsx, .pptx, or other formats are skipped unless they have been converted to Google format. Images, PDFs already in the folder, and other non-Google files are also skipped. The extension reports a count of converted and skipped files when the batch completes.

3

Handling subfolders

The extension does not recurse into subfolders. If your folder contains nested subfolders, select all and run the extension in the parent folder first. Then open each subfolder and repeat the process. For automated recursive conversion of a full folder tree, use Google Apps Script.

4

Shared and large folders

The extension works on shared folders as long as you have at least Viewer access to the files inside. Files with download restrictions will be skipped. For large folders with many files, the batch runs sequentially and can take several minutes. Keep the Chrome tab open until the batch completes.

5

Organizing the output

Each PDF is named after its source file. If you need a consistent naming scheme, rename the files in Drive before running the conversion. After the batch, move the PDFs into a dedicated folder using Ctrl+A in your downloads directory sorted by download date.

Can I convert an entire Google Drive folder to PDF at once?

Yes. Open the folder, press Ctrl+A to select all files, and click the extension icon. Each Google Workspace file in the folder converts to its own PDF.

Does folder conversion include files in subfolders?

No. The extension converts files in the currently open folder view. Open each subfolder separately and run the extension to convert its contents.

What happens to non-Google files in the folder?

They are skipped. The extension only converts Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Uploaded Word or Excel files that have not been converted to Google format are not processed.

Can I convert a folder someone else shared with me?

Yes, as long as you have at least Viewer access to the files. Files with download restrictions set by the owner will not convert.

Is there a free way to convert a Drive folder to PDF?
