Convert a Mixed-Type Drive Folder to PDF

Most Google Drive folders contain a mix of file types: Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, uploaded images, existing PDFs, and other files. Converting a folder with mixed types means the extension handles every Google Workspace file and skips the rest, so you do not need to manually sort or deselect non-convertible files.

How the extension handles mixed selections

When you select all files in a folder with Ctrl+A and click the extension icon, the extension checks each file's MIME type. Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides are exported. Uploaded Word or Excel files that have not been converted to Google format, images, existing PDFs, and other file types are skipped. The final report tells you how many files were converted and how many were skipped.

What counts as a convertible Google file

Google Docs (application/vnd.google-apps.document), Google Sheets (application/vnd.google-apps.spreadsheet), and Google Slides (application/vnd.google-apps.presentation) are the three types the extension converts. Uploaded files that Google has auto-converted to these types are included. Files you uploaded and kept in their original format are not.

Dealing with uploaded Word and Excel files

If your folder contains .docx or .xlsx files that you want to convert, open them in Google Drive first and choose to open with Google Docs or Google Sheets. This converts them to Google format in place. Then run the extension on the folder again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to deselect non-Google files before running the extension?

No. The extension automatically skips file types it cannot convert. You can select everything and the extension will filter the list itself.
