Fix Missing Drawings in Google Docs to PDF
Drawings created with Google Docs' built-in drawing tool that are missing from the PDF export are usually caused by a sync issue between the drawing object and the document's export data. Here is how to fix them.
Save and close the drawing before exporting
If a drawing was recently edited, close the drawing editor and save the document before running the PDF export. The drawing object needs to be fully committed to the document's data before the export API reads it. Open the drawing, click Save and close, wait for the document to save, then export.
Download the drawing as an image and re-insert
Click the drawing in the Google Doc, then click the Edit button that appears below it to open the drawing editor. In the drawing editor, go to Actions > Download > PNG. Close the drawing editor, delete the original drawing from the Doc, and re-insert the PNG using Insert > Image > Upload from computer. The PNG will export reliably as a static image.
Complex drawings with many elements
Drawings with many overlapping shapes, gradients, or semi-transparent elements sometimes render incompletely in PDF. Simplify the drawing by reducing the number of overlapping elements or remove gradient fills and replace them with solid colors. Re-test the export after simplifying.
Check if the drawing is set to Behind text
A drawing set to Behind text mode (used to create background-style graphics) may not export through the standard PDF API. Change the drawing's wrap setting to In line with text to ensure it is included in the PDF output.
