Export Google Docs as PDF
The standard way to export a Google Doc as PDF is File > Download > PDF Document. That works, but it requires opening each file individually and navigating through two menus. The Docs to PDF extension adds a single-click export that works from inside any open Google Doc or from Google Drive without opening the file at all.
One-click export from inside a document
With the Docs to PDF extension installed, open any Google Doc and click the extension icon in your Chrome toolbar. The PDF is generated immediately using Google's export API and downloaded to your browser's default downloads folder. No menus, no file format selection, no waiting for a dialog.
Export without opening the document
In Google Drive, you can right-click a Google Doc and export it to PDF without opening it first. Select the file, click the extension icon, and the export runs in the background. This is especially useful when you have several documents to export and do not want to open each one.
Formatting is preserved
The extension calls the same Google export API that powers File > Download. Every font, table, image, hyperlink, header, and footer that appears in the document is rendered identically in the PDF. If a formatting issue appears in the exported PDF, it will also appear in a manual export. The fix is in the document, not the export method.
Supported document features
The export handles all standard Google Docs features: headers and footers with page numbers, tables of contents with linked headings, inline images and drawings, footnotes, comments (optionally), and custom page sizes. Features that rely on live Google data, such as embedded Google Forms, render as static snapshots.
Where the PDF is saved
The PDF goes to your Chrome downloads folder by default. You can change the default download location in Chrome settings, or set Chrome to ask where to save each file. The file is named after the Google Doc title. If a file with that name already exists in the downloads folder, Chrome appends a number.

How do I export a Google Doc as a PDF with one click?
Install the Docs to PDF Chrome extension. Open the Google Doc or select it in Drive, then click the extension icon. The PDF is downloaded immediately.
Can I export a Google Doc as PDF without downloading it to my computer?
The export always produces a file. If you want the PDF saved to Google Drive instead of your local computer, you need a different workflow, such as using Google Apps Script to save the export back to Drive.
Does the PDF include all pages of my Google Doc?
Yes. The full document is exported as a multi-page PDF. If you want only specific pages, you can print a page range from the PDF viewer after downloading.
Can I export a Google Doc as PDF on a shared document?
Yes, as long as you have at least Viewer access. Documents where download is disabled by the owner cannot be exported.
Does the exported PDF have a watermark?
No. PDFs exported with the Docs to PDF extension do not have watermarks, on either the free or Pro plan.
