Export Google Sheets as PDF
Exporting a Google Sheet as PDF is trickier than exporting a document. You need to decide whether to export all tabs or just one, whether gridlines should be visible, how wide columns fit onto a page, and whether charts export correctly. The Docs to PDF extension handles these exports through Google's own API, giving you clean results without third-party processing.
Exporting a single sheet vs. the whole workbook
When you export a Google Sheet to PDF through the native menu, you choose between the current sheet, the full workbook, or specific pages. The Docs to PDF extension exports the active sheet by default when you trigger it from inside the open spreadsheet. For workbook-wide exports, navigate to the file in Google Drive and export from there.
Controlling page layout for spreadsheets
Spreadsheets often have more columns than fit on a standard page. Before exporting, use File > Page Setup to choose the orientation (landscape usually works better for wide spreadsheets) and the scaling option. Setting scaling to 'Fit to page' compresses the sheet to fit on one page. These settings are saved with the document and apply to every export.
Gridlines and print settings
By default, Google Sheets does not include gridlines in PDF exports. If you want gridlines visible, go to View > Show > Gridlines and make sure they are enabled, or use the print settings at File > Print and toggle 'Show gridlines' before exporting. The extension picks up whatever print settings are active in the document.
Charts in exported spreadsheets
Charts embedded in a Google Sheet export as static images in the PDF. They reflect the data at the moment of export. If the underlying data changes after the export, the chart in the PDF will be outdated. For reports that update regularly, re-export after each data update.
Multiple tabs and tab order
If you want all tabs in a spreadsheet exported as a single PDF, use the print preview in Google Sheets and select 'Workbook' as the scope before the extension triggers the export. Tab order in the PDF matches the tab order at the bottom of the sheet.
