Convert Google Docs from a Shared Drive to PDF
Shared drives in Google Workspace give teams a common space for files that belong to the organization, not to any individual. Converting documents from a shared drive to PDF follows the same process as converting from personal Drive, and the extension handles both without any extra configuration.
Navigating to a shared drive
In Google Drive, click 'Shared drives' in the left sidebar. Select the shared drive your team uses and open the folder containing the documents you need. The extension works in shared drives exactly as it does in personal Drive.
Access requirements
Converting a document from a shared drive requires at least Viewer access to that drive. If the file has been restricted by a drive manager to prevent downloads, the export will fail. Contact your drive manager to adjust permissions if needed.
Where the PDFs are saved
Exported PDFs go to your local downloads folder, not back to the shared drive. If your team needs the PDFs in the shared drive, upload them manually after conversion or use a Google Apps Script to automate the process.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I bulk convert files from a shared drive?
Yes. Select multiple files in the shared drive view and click the extension icon. The extension processes all selected files.
