Convert Google Docs to PDF Without Opening Them
Converting without opening saves a significant amount of time when you have multiple files to export. The Docs to PDF extension reads the file selection directly from the Drive interface and converts each document without you needing to open any of them.
Why this matters for large batches
Without the extension, converting a Google Doc requires opening it, navigating to File > Download > PDF, and waiting for the download. For ten documents, that is at least fifty clicks. The extension reduces this to selecting the files in Drive and clicking the icon once, regardless of how many documents you selected.
How the extension reads unopen files
Google Drive provides file metadata through its API without requiring the file to be opened. The extension reads the file IDs of your selection and passes them directly to the export API. The documents are converted server-side by Google and downloaded as PDFs.
What you see during conversion
A small progress indicator in the extension panel shows the current file being converted and how many remain. You can continue browsing Google Drive or other tabs while the conversion runs. The files do not open in new tabs.
Frequently Asked Questions
